Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition which causes bones to lose density and become weak.  It is more prevalent in older people with a genetic predisposition and occurs more frequently in women, although men are also affected. People with low bone-density are at a higher risk of fracture and often have no symptoms until a fracture occurs! The best plan for treating osteoporosis typically includes a combination of medication, diet modification, reducing the risk factors of a fall, and weight-bearing exercises.

Physical therapy utilizes therapeutic exercise to help prevent the loss of bone density.  With the help of good nutrition, your bone can adapt to regular exercise and become denser and stronger.  Physical therapy also provides the added benefit of improving your balance to prevent the dangerous falls that can lead to bony injury.
